Do you have the required office space for your staff?

08/06/2019

Now, you may think that as long as each member of your staff has a desk, chair and space around their desk, that is sufficient.

However, the reality is that the UK standards guide says that an average of 5 square metres or 11 cubic metres is the minimum space required per person.

When looking at this it is worth remembering that this is the guide for an empty room with a ceiling height of 3.0 metres.

As well as taking the above into consideration it would be worth your while to also consider the following factors:

  • What are your current staff levels?
  • Are you planning on expanding your business in the next 5 years?
  • Consider whether staff will be desk sharing or will they each need their own workstation.
  • Do your levels of staff fluctuate throughout the year?
  • Will you be introducing agile working?
  • What type of work will be undertaken? Sales, Admin etc.
  • Are breakout spaces required? (see my blog "New trend: Why you need a breakout space in your office")
  • What is your requirement for ancillary space?
  • Employee happiness - Remember this has a profound effect on staff engagement and has an effect on psychology.
  • Think about your company culture - this is changing dramatically, it is far more common now for everyone to sit in a shared space (see my blog "Your business needs a company culture. Start building it today")

It might be a wise idea to have your workspace planned to ensure that you do not have too much or too little space.

Leasing too much space will have a negative effect on your profitability; whereas too little space could restrict your ability to grow, limit performance and demoralise your staff.

So, give us a call today to see if you are getting the most out of your space.
